More Information about Tibetan Treasures

Thangkas are beautiful works of art as well as very helpful practice items for visualization. Careful attention is paid to correctness of proportion, symbolism, and the finest details. Most of our thangkas have been purchased from Tibetan and Nepali artists living in Nepal.

At any one time, we stock 30 to 90 regular-sized thangkas. Most are one-of-a-kind, and come and go more quickly than we can update our online catalog. Our Web site gives a good indication of stock and price range. Click on the small image to see more detail. You may, of course, inquire about or order thangkas by phone.

Dimensions listed are of the painting only (the canvas) and of the overall dimensions, including the brocade frame. The overall width measurement given is that of the flared lower edge, which is the widest part of the thangka.

Please note that all of our thangkas are individually hand- painted. The images and brocades will vary.

These decorative knobs are attached to the ends of the dowel that is placed in the bottom hem of a thangka to help it to hang properly. The knobs are a traditional finishing touch. Most thangkas purchased from Tibetan Treasures accomodate a 3/4" dowel. Note: because they are cast using metric molds, some shaving or padding of the ends of the dowel may be necessary for the knobs to fit snugly.
