Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche

H.E. Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche (1930-2002) belongs to the last generation of teachers to have been fully trained in Tibet in the vast wealth of Vajrayana teachings and methods. He held superb teaching lineages, primarily in the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Vajrayana which he taught unceasingly ~ the main emphasis throughout his life being pure motivation.

After the Communist conquest of Tibet in 1959, Rinpoche went into exile in India and Nepal. During the next twenty years, in various refugee camps and settlements, he served as lama who administered to the refugees’ spiritual needs, as a camp leader who organized work projects, as an artist schooled in the traditional ways, and as a highly-skilled Tibetan medicine physician. He then traveled to the United States in 1979 where the combination of his warm personality, his depth of knowledge and training, and his meditative realization magnetized thousands of students based in North and South America, Europe, Russia, Hong Kong, and Australia and helped establish numerous centers and meditation groups.

In 1995, Rinpoche resettled in southern Brazil where he and his sangha created Khadro Ling (chagdud.org). Since his Parinirvana on November 17, 2002, Chagdud Tulku's lineage has been well maintained by those teachers whom he had ordained in the West. His love and compassion continue to fill our hearts, and the profound wisdom lineage that he bequeathed to all of us never ceases to flourish.
